In September I was invited to join a weekend away to beautiful Porto to celebrate 10 years Ventigrate. Ventigrate is a Belgian IT company that specializes in SharePoint and .NET development.
I’m thrilled to share some highlights with you from our weekend to Porto which was filled with great activities such as Port tasting, a cycling tour, fine dining, and lots more.
Porto has really left a great impression on me with its authentic character. I loved walking down the cobbled stone streets towards the river bank, seeing all these terracotta colored roofs against the bluest of skies. The city is nestled on the cliffs of the Douro river and it has a calm atmosphere with the sound of seagulls and crashing waves, the bell signal of an antique tram passing by and an occasional street artist.
The city is of course widely known for its Porto wines. We had the privilege of visitingGraham’s Port with a guided tour in the cellars of Graham’s Port and tasting some varieties of Port and fine dining at its panoramic restaurant. An amazing experience!
Porto is also known for its decorative painted tiles called “Azulejos”. In the city there are murals made out of azulejos, I found a really beautiful blue and white painted tile mural on a church wall, it was enormous. Very impressive.
If you’re ever in Porto be sure to rent a bike and head towards the river mouth, you’ll love the untamed beaches at the ocean and while you’re there definitely indulge in fresh sea food.
I’m thankful to Ventigrate for the unforgettable experiences we shared in september and as I sit here writing this first post of the new year, I cannot help but daydream of Porto again as the memories keep coming back.
Special thanks to Ventigrate and to our group for the great times.
